As we mark National Apprenticeship Week 2025, we take great pride in reflecting on the many successful apprenticeships and apprentices that have shaped RPG. Many of these talented individuals have continued to grow with us and remain valued members of our team.

You can see further down the page an insight from Mia Nicholas who started her apprenticeship with RPG in September.

At RPG Chartered Accountants, we have a strong tradition of welcoming both graduates and non-graduates into our training pathways. In September 2024, we were delighted to welcome four new apprentices onto our Chartered Accountancy (ACA) programme, pictured above< followed by a fifth apprentice in January 2025, who is pursuing a combined ACA/Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) pathway.

We believe that real-world experience, combined with a professional qualification, provides a strong foundation for long-term career success. Apprenticeships offer a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop within a professional firm, setting individuals up for a stable and rewarding career.

From the firm’s perspective, investing in new talent is essential to our success. Fresh ideas, new ways of working, and diverse experiences help us grow as a business, improve our services, and enhance the development of our people. We are committed to helping our apprentices reach their full potential and thrive in their careers.

On completing their training contracts, there is scope to offer full time employment contracts with opportunities for further professional development. We are incredibly proud that many of our managers began their journeys with RPG as trainees and have grown into leadership positions within the firm.

RPG’s recruitment programme for the September 2025 intake has been concluded and we will be launching our recruitment campaign for September 2026 in the summer of 2025.   For more information please see Recruitment – RPG Chartered Accountants

To all our past and present apprentices – thank you for being part of our story!

I am very pleased with the decision I took to embark upon an apprenticeship, and I have no regrets.

Mia Nicholas, Trainee Chartered Accountant at RPG Chartered Accountants

I joined RPG Chartered Accountants on an apprenticeship programme in September 2025 with

A-levels in Maths, Law and Psychology, starting straight after a gap year when I travelled around Australia.

I was attracted to accountancy because I enjoyed maths and numbers at school, and people around me work in accountancy so I was familiar with the profession.

Going to university was an option but I decided instead to embark on an apprenticeship.  I realised the benefits I would gain from having hands on practical experience, and being able to put everything I was learning into practice straightaway was a big bonus.   It was also important to me that I could be paid whilst learning and not accumulate any student debt. And I know that I am already building valuable working connections.

I started attending college fairly soon after joining RPG and tend to go once a month, but this can vary.  Most of the courses I have done so far (at certificate level) revolve around a 5 day college course followed by revision, which is in my own time, and sitting the exam.   I have sat 3 exams so far. My first exam was a month after I started which was quite a quick start but has allowed me to have a few exams completed already which I am grateful for.  During the next stage (professional level) there will be an extra week at college which is centred around revision.

The balance between work and study can be difficult at the start when but once you get into a routine and manage your time it gets easier. I think it is important not to over-work yourself and give yourself necessary breaks.

Everyone at RPG is willing to help. We receive regular training updates and people are always enthusiastic to help.  Also, we are given many opportunities to express how we feel and any ways in which RPG can improve. I am very much enjoying working here RPG, in particular the people, and it’s great to work in such a friendly environment.   I am enjoying the work element as well, including visiting clients’ premises and learning about different businesses and the people that work at them.

I am very pleased with the decision I took to embark upon an apprenticeship, and I have no regrets. I’d certainly recommend it to others who want to get real life experience in a profession whilst also gaining a degree.
