NW’s late-filers should seek accounting services in Manchester

Figures from HMRC show why, despite the lapsing of the January 31st deadline for filing online tax returns, many people are still likely to be scrambling for accounting services in Manchester and the north-west’s other major towns and cities.

According to HMRC, some 369 taxpayers out of every 10,000 in the north-west failed to file on time last year, meaning the region ranked behind only the north-east and London as the least punctual.

By way of contrast, in the south-west just 299 out of every 10,000 taxpayers missed the deadline, 324 in the East Midlands and 337 in Yorkshire and the Humber.

As well as location, gender can have an impact – 394 men per 10,000 filed late last year, compared with just 358 women.

With age comes awareness, too, as people aged 18-20 are most likely to file late, whereas over-65 taxpayers are most punctual, with just 155 late filings per 10,000 people.

All of this adds up to a headache especially for the north-west’s young men, but also for anyone who has still not filed their tax return – and prompt action is essential.
