Manchester accountants count the cost of speeding

Our Manchester accountants have a word of warning for motorists in the area – particularly those who regularly use the M60, such as regular commuters.

Junction 25, near Brinnington in north-east Stockport, has been named as the ‘busiest’ junction in the country in terms of the number of speeding tickets awarded there.

In 2013, 9,326 offences were detected at the junction, leading to an estimated £189,140 in fines, according to a report from LV=.

Since 2009, one in seven motorists have now been issued with at least one speeding ticket, rising to 22% who have been fined more than once.

But in 15% of cases, speed limits had changed recently, and 19% said the speed limit was not clearly displayed in the area.

Much of Manchester’s ring road is subject to a 50mph speed limit; however, the flow of traffic is often closer to 70mph, leaving motorists in a quandary as to which is the safer travelling speed.

Our Manchester accountants would stress that the speed limit should be adhered to as frequently as possible, in order to avoid the financial hit of a fine, or a day off work to attend a driver re-education class.
