Manchester accountants can help plan charitable donations

Published on November 2, 2012 by Crawfords Accounting

Manchester accountants can help you to make sure you benefit from giving to charity, without putting yourself at risk, and while ensuring that your money goes to where it is needed.

Giving online is now a commonplace practice, and is an easy way to donate simply by typing in your card or account details.

However, the Charity Commission recently warned web users to be certain that the site they are using is affiliated with a legitimate charity.

For those giving as a means of receiving tax benefits, that could be especially important, as giving to an organisation that is not registered as a charity could jeopardise the tax benefits received.

The Charity Commission also advised people to be wary of giving too much information – for example, to claim Gift Aid on your donation, charities should only need your name and address, along with confirmation that you are a UK taxpayer.

If you’re in any doubt about your donations, speak to our Manchester accountants, and we can help you to plan your charitable actions in a way that maximises the tax benefits you receive.
