Manchester accountants could have particular cause to celebrate if Ian Wright walked through their doors – or Julie Wright, for that matter.
That isn’t anything to do with the ex-Arsenal footballer though, it’s simply thanks to his name.
Research from Confused.com reveals that Manchester’s M33 postcode district has the third-best credit rating in the country on average.
The area centres on Sale, to the south-west of the city and famously home to some of Manchester accountants’ most affluent clients.
According to Confused.com, male clients with the best credit ratings are most likely to be called Brian, Alan, or of course Ian.
Credit-savvy women are usually called Helen, Susan or Julie, while the most debt-conscious surnames are Edwards, Lewis and Wright.
However, there’s no direct link between the first names, last names and locations – and an Ian Wright living in second-placed Guildford or top-ranked Slough might have an even better credit score.
In terms of age, it seems the older you are, the better you are with money – over-65s score 8% higher on their credit profiles, while 18 to 24-year-olds are the worst performers, at 4% below the national average.
