Help with Universal Credit from Manchester accountants

Published on December 13, 2013 by Crawfords Accounting

Universal Credit has been rolled out in several parts of Greater Manchester, and if you are finding it difficult to adapt to the new system, Manchester accountants can help you to manage your finances.

The new system began to roll out across Greater Manchester in spring 2013, and residents have effectively been treated as guinea pigs while the government iron out any problems with Universal Credit.

One of the most controversial aspects was the elimination of separate housing benefits, so that money is now no longer paid directly to landlords to cover tenants’ rent.

As such, those claiming benefits must now ensure they budget well enough to pay for their rent out of their own bank accounts.

“It will be your responsibility to budget and pay your rent from your Universal Credit and any other income you may have,” advises housing charity Shelter England.

This week, the Department for Work and Pensions outlined plans to roll out Universal Credit further, reaching ten areas nationwide by spring 2014.

If you are in any of the areas already included in the roll-out, or Universal Credit reaches you early in the new year, our Manchester accountants will be ready to help you manage your income in its new form, including the increased need to budget your household finances under closer control.
