Focus on elderly health could be good news for medical accounting

A renewed focus on encouraging the elderly to visit their GP could be good news for local doctors, while saving money for the NHS overall – and we will be looking for the positive impacts of the trend in our medical accounting practices in the coming months.

Saga have waded into the issue with reassurances that elderly people are not wasting doctors’ time by seeking medical advice, nor are they necessarily hypochondriacs.

Director general Ros Altmann points out that, as the UK population ages and life expectancies rise, taking care of the elderly will continue to grow in importance.

“GPs and the health service are there to provide care and help, and to spot problems before they become severe,” she adds.

Saga are now supporting Department of Health efforts to ensure the over-60s seek medical assistance when they need it, rather than adopting a ‘keep calm and carry on’ approach to their health.

This could be good news for medical accounting, as any shift of work on to GPs – and away from long-term hospital care – may see a rise in job availability or individual earnings, both of which we will be looking out for.
